In the “PROFEX – Academy of Healthy Life” diagnostics laboratory, under the leaderships and supervision of the team of experts from Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, only the most up-to-date and state-of-the-art equipment is used for detailed and precise testing in order to confirm the current morphofunctional condition as well as the level of development of each individual motor ability.

Depending on the genetics, morphological type, lifestyle, frequency of the physical activity in everyday life and work, diet, possible inherited or gotten body deformities, injuries and many other factors, the human body is susceptible to positive and negative changes which lead to significant morphological, physiological and functional changes. Our unique and universal diagnostic approach by the way of detailed testing allows for:

  • Establishing and analyzing the cause and effect of the disturbed body status that manifests itself as obesity, dysfunctional tissue development, body deformities and injuries to the locomotor apparatus;
  • Isolating variables that limit further development of children’s activities and the abilities of the young and professional athletes;

Moreover, diagnostic testing provides information for detailed and continuous tracking, reevaluating and controlling of the training effects which allow for a quick and efficient improvement in all aspects of the chosen program. Therefore, the diagnostic evaluation represents a necessary introduction to the conceptualization of a targeted training procedure and an appropriate diet adjusted to the individual’s needs and their current health status.

The diagnostic laboratory includes the following tests and exams:

PROFEX Academy also developed special computer programs which are used to track the changes in the abilities of every client under the influence of the training sessions while comparing the results with the groups of clients organized according to different parameters.

The structure and ratio analysis of the different tissue types

Complete body structure is established using the bioelectrical impedance, In Body 720, body composition analyzer, produced by the American company Biospace, which offers precise data about the amount and the ratio of specific tissue types in the body. In applying a special method of reaction analysis, this system uses 6 different frequencies in 5 body segments in order acquire comprehensive data and completely differentiate different body segments and their relation.

Based of the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of tissue conductivity, it is possible to highly accurately determine the amount of fat tissue, muscle tissue and water as well as the ratio of extra- and intra-cellular fluid, the amount of protein, minerals, etc., in the whole body or it particular segments.

In addition to the cited indicators, the bioelectric impedance offers information on the cellular energy flow phase angle, edema structures (swelling), various body indices, energy spent at rest (basic metabolism), the relation between the left and the right side of the body and the amount of visceral fats. This type of testing is particularly important for children and young athletes as it checks the degree of harmonization and development of skeletal, muscular and fat tissues in the phase of accelerated growth and development when, due to unprofessionalism and disregard of certain factors of maturing, it is possible for negative and harmful, often irreversible, changes to the locomotor apparatus and metabolism to occur.

Those values allow for a precise programming of the feeding regiment and coordination with the specific training program. It was exactly those precise body structure analyses that offered “PROFEX – Academy of Healthy Life” the key information which changed the training procedures and timing and allowed our professional athletes to rise from average to the very top of the world’s ranking.

Analysis of the cardio-respiratory function

A complete overview of the simultaneous cardio-pulmonary function, at rest and during activity, is obtained with tests performed using Fitmate Pro, produced by an Italian company Cosmed, which primarily uses a two-way gauge and their implemented patent, Dynamic Mixing Chamber. The said system has been proven to be one of the most accurate for the cardio-respiratory testing and that is the reason why it is used for testing athletes by the leading scientific institutions all over the world. These tests represent the biggest challenge in checking the reliability of specific apparatus.

Testing provides important data about cardio-respiratory functionality which is important for the design of the training programs: an assessment of basic metabolic rate – a body’s total energy consumption during a period of relative rest (Resting Metabolic Rate), total and maximum consumption of oxygen (VO2max), aerobic threshold, individual energy training zones, body’s energy consumption while at rest.


“PROFEX – Academy of Healthy Life” has a GaitScan platform (AmCube FootWork Pro), outfitted with over 4000 touch-sensitive sensors which register data 300 times per second. This technologically most advanced apparatus, in combination with powerful software, provides numerous, exact data for assessing feet function and biodynamic footstep characteristics when walking or running as well as data on the orientation of the pelvis in the transverse plane.

Bad foot mechanic can cause pain in the feet, ankles, knees and even in the lover back. A minimal misbalance between the left and the right leg, in weight distribution exerted on the feet when standing, walking or running, in the course of a long work or sports career can reflect on many body segments and lead to serious disorders of the motion apparatus. Because of the bad genetic inheritance and the bad quality of the footwear, a large number of people have a changed food surface physionomy and a problem with flat feet. That is why it is essential to examine and track the foot mechanics in order to improve movement efficiency.

Telemetric kinesiological electromyography analysis (EMG)

In the diagnostics laboratory “PROFEX – Academy of Healthy Life” the surface electromyographic tests are conducted using DELSYS Myomonitor IV EMG system, which has the ability to track 8 different channels.

Analyses of the results gotten with this apparatus separate our Academy’s lab from the rest and place us at the very top of kinesiological testing in the region.

The electromyographic measurements allow for an isolated and precise assessment of the muscle ability necessary for the maintenance of the proper posture (postural status of the body), which can be adversely affected by a long professional career or lifestyle. We are also able to analyze the muscles responsible for a large number of specific movements or movements crucial for success in a particular sport discipline. This state-of-the-art apparatus allows us to track the state of the musculature in static or quasi-static exertion, such as maintenance of an upright body position, and also a large number specific muscle tests: explosive power, assessment of muscle speed potential, determining the degree of muscle stiffness which defines the level of agility, effects of fatigue caused by various regimes and intensities of work, etc.

Neuromuscular activation and fatigue Muscles which are responsible for the control of movement of the human body are in turn controlled by the Central Nervous System. When assessing the condition of the sport form and movement control, it is necessary to include the assessment of the muscle condition according to the nerve regulation. The most common types of moves in professional sport mean a quick activation or deactivation of certain muscles with a high level of coordination of that process. During this process and during a long-lasting exposure to intense trainings and competitions without the adequate rest period can bring on muscle soreness and the fatigue of the nervous system. Therefore, one of the most important factors which should be observed regularly is the neuromuscular fatigue and the reaction of the body to it in the given situations. Conversely, the neuromuscular fatigue can cause certain changes in coordination and control of individual moves, movement of the body segments, and, finally, the change of movement in the whole body of a basketball player. The decline in percentages of the shooting averages in the final minutes of the game or in the last games of the season, can serve as an example to illustrate this, even though the players ‘feel great physically’. “PROFEX Academy of Healthy Life” pays very special attention to cultivating sport form and ensuring training conditions which stimulate establishing of the necessary motor movement schemes which are only slightly or not at all affected by fatigue. Measuring the activation levels, the length of activation, activation and deactivation of certain muscles and maintenance of motor programs through exhibiting the desired motion are just some of the factors which can be measured in out laboratory. Maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) MVC is a specific test which shows the amount of muscle activation during isometric contractions. It provides the information about the amount of nerve impulses from the central nervous system which are sent by the muscles, how those impulses are distributed in time and, based on these finding, what the characteristics of the neuro component of the muscle tone are. This test can also be used to show muscle behavior at its different lengths and, therefore, unquestionably prove its very basic characteristics.


The measuring of the motor abilities


The measuring of the motor abilities is carried out using the Optojump Next and Witty photo-cells. Those are the latest devices by Microgate, an Italian company, which, along with the specifically calibrated software, enable the designing of the tests which establish various aspects belonging to the field of motor abilities (strength, speed, agility, coordination). The detailed analysis of the data provides information about the development of the active component of the muscle force, development and use of the elastic tissue of the muscle in tendon-connective structure, speed of recruitment and activation of the motor units, etc. “PROFEX – Academy of Healthy Life” developed special programs which allow tracking of changes in the abilities while in training.

All gotten results are, thanks to the modern and particular programs, stored, compared and analyzed by means of various tables and graphs. This makes it possible to quickly compare all the results gotten with sport tests for each individual athlete with the results of the groups of other athletes, based on several different parameters, for example, the comparison of the results of the athletes in the same field, same sex and age, selection, weight category, or position on the team, which is of the utmost importance when defining the current shape and when planning the training programs and competition results.


“Optojump Next system”

Optojump Next is an optical measuring tool which has an increasingly important application in testing and analyzing different types of human movements. The system is based on continuous emitting and receiving of signals between the photo-diodes. A specifically adapted program instantaneously processes the received data and then accurately calculates and displays a whole set of mechanical parameters which describe human locomotion.

Use of cameras allows for a detailed video analysis in HD resolution, which, along with the received mechanical characteristics of movement data provide limitless possibilities for analyzing each individual movement and motion on the whole.

By using the data base and comparing the recordings, the experts from the diagnostics team “PROFEX – Academy of Healthy Life” can track, note and compare every change in the abilities and the process of rehabilitation and recovering as well as in the process of the training.

Optojump Next system can analyze the following:

  • Walking and running (using the length of the phase of foot-contact with the surface, the lengths of the flight phase, the length of step, rhythm, joint angles, strength spent on every step, etc.).
  • The motor abilities assessment of the athlete (strength, speed, agility, coordination).
  • The determining of the various limiting facts in the development of the jumps, by analyzing the muscle force and strength, elasticity and coordination (using the length of the phase of foot-contact with the surface, the length of the flight phase, the jump height, dynamic balance, rhythm of the jump execution, strength spent on every jump, etc.).
  • The effectiveness of the various elements of the basketball technique.
  • Tolerance to the different types of fatigue, etc.

Witty photocells

Witty is a cordless system for measuring time which is comprised of specifically designed photocells and timers connected by emitting and receiving of radio waves. Thanks to its cordless system, an efficient program and long-lasting batteries, the Witty system is easy to carry and mount which makes it convenient for a large number of various tests and measurements done on the field.

The system is very practical and multifunctional in testing of the basketball players, since it can provide the following results:

  • the effects of the speed increase, acceleration, especially in the movement conditions with various direction changes (running forward, running backward, side movements, running with multifunctional direction changes, etc.)
  • the indirect endurance indicators which, coupled with the other functional tests, provide an accurate picture of the basketball players readiness.
  • reaction time, etc.

Morphological and amplitude testing

Morphological measurements include the standard volume and length of segments measuring procedure which in turn shows the state of the body with respect to size or more specifically volume and length. Volume, or mass, and the way it is distributed in the segments directly affects the movements from the aspect of the distribution of the body’s total movement. Data obtained, in combination with the other results, establish the proportion of the body in relation to the morphological type, profession and the desired physical appearance as well the effects of body proportionality to specific movements which are different for every sport. The results also allow for an indirect width estimate of some joint structures and the portion of the bone component in them. Another important result for the assessment of the postural status is the degree of pelvic tilt. Leveling of the pelvis establishes if the noted misbalance registered in the neuromuscular tests reflects on the status of the pelvis and the spine. Misbalance, if it exists, can cause problems in several aspects of standing or moving which must be fixed on time especially in children or adolescents but also in athletes when planning a long career.

Amplitude test implies an estimate of mobility or the achieved amplitude of a movement of all joints on all three plains of movement. Based on this assessment, it is possible to ascertain the limiting factors for achieving adequate mobility of the locomotor apparatus.
